That said, two substantial partnerships highlighted India ‘A’s scorecard of 282/3 at the end of the first day of their four-day match against England Lions after the home side elected to bat at the SDNRW ground here on Wednesday. Skipper KL Rahul (81, 166b, 11×4) and opening partner Easwaran (117, 222b, 13×4, 1×6) put on 178 runs, and later a 108-ball 84 between Easwaran and Priyank Panchal ensured decent performances from the home side’s top three.
The day, however, belonged to Easwaran, who had piled up 861 runs, including an unbeaten double hundred, in the Ranji Trophy this season. The Bengal opener came into this contest with an eye on extending his consistent run with the red ball, and he finished the day with that box ticked.
Rahul, who showed glimpses of his old assured self with an 89 in the first of this two-match series, looked to boost his self-confidence and prolong his consistency. Alas, for the second consecutive match, a century eluded the Karnataka opener. He perished when he edged a short ball from Zak Chappell to wicketkeeper Ollie Pope.
Brief scores: India A 282/3 in 84.5 overs (KL Rahul 81, AR Easwaran 117, Priyank Panchal 50) vs England Lions
